Today is Thursday, and every Thursday is my day to publish a blog. (Jon publishes his blog on Monday and our podcasts are published on Wednesday, fyi). All week long, I was thinking about what I would write about. I had a few ideas that I was tossing around. When I’d sit down to write, I just wasn’t happy with the results.
Then, the thought occurred to me; how often do I speak (or write) for the sole purpose of being heard? Plato once said, “wise men talk because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.” I believe there is an element of truth there, Plato. Scripture does tell us to be slow to speak.
Honestly, I don’t know what to say this week. I’ve been spending a lot of time in prayer and in Scripture. I’ve been making it a priority to enter into God’s presence and be quiet. I don’t do that often enough. Having this blog and our podcast, I’ve grown so accustom to being heard. I need to remember to be quiet and listen.
So, this week, I’m sorry, I don’t have a great blog for you. Instead, I’ll leave you with an encouragement. Be quiet, sometimes. Delve deep into the Scriptures and study them. Pray often. Enter into God’s presence and enjoy it. Let your words be few and meaningful. Be quick to listen; not just to God, but to those around you.
