I am taking a break from our regular blog series currently to give you details on an upcoming opportunity in June. The 22nd-30th, I will be embarking on an opportunity, by God’s providence, that I have never been able to pursue before. By God’s grace, I will be working on a short term mission trip. I will be going with a group of brothers and sisters from Jackson First Presbyterian Church, in Jackson, Mississippi. We will fly from the capital of Jackson, to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. From there we will fly into Lima, Peru. The actual mission we are working is in a place called Cajamarca, Peru, which is about 8-10 hours up the coast from the capital of Lima. The team I am working with, will consist of doctors, dentists, and even event coordinators and work laborers. I will be working with coordinators in a church there in the village, helping with Vacation Bible School, and with Biblical games and events for the children at the church. I will be doing a presentation of my journey with my church congregation upon return. At the culmination of our trip we will have a chance to visit Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. I do not know every single detail of information, but as I am given more leading up to our departure, I will update you all and keep you in the loop of this journey.
This trip for evangelism is something I have considered with great joy and weighty cost. Jesus says in Matthew 25 that what we do to others, we’ve done to Christ Himself. He suffered the children to come to Him in Matthew 19, and was very explicit in their participation in the gospel. This is just that. Its an opportunity to share the gospel in an area that is not as fortunate as some of the comforts we have here in America. Sometimes these things can cloud our judgment of what is important. We are to be salt and light. To be a beacon of hope for the world, showing them the free gospel of Jesus Christ. Loving someone because He loved us first (1 John 4:19).
I come to you with this information for two reasons. Mainly, and most importantly, I need your prayer support. It is a great joy to know my Christians in Motion family of saints are behind me as I embark on something that is new, and will get me out of my comfort zone. Paul says in Colossians 4:2 for us to “Devote ourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” This is a great need for me, as well as all of our brothers and sisters: to be in continuous prayer for one another.
Another reason I come to you is for consideration for financial suport. This trip is not free, and there are some expenses I have not yet completely covered. I am close to my goal, but I am short in respect to some of the costs. Any donation that anyone could spare would be greatly appreciated. I am not begging for money in an attempt to pad my pocket, or heap on my own lusts for covetousness. This is a real goal that I need help to cover for sponsorship. The entire amount of collection I take up is going completely to the Peru Mission trip and for expenses to cover that trip alone. 100 percent. Predominately the Machu Picchu trip expenses.
Again, I am thankful for this opportunity. I am thankful to you, CIM readers. I am thakful to God for all He has done for me, and I know this trip will change my heart as much as it does a little one of His. Continue to pray and consider supporting us in this endeavour. Thanks again! Talk to you soon, and you will be updated as we progress!
