Since the launch of Christians in Motion, we’ve been conscientious to only write and post about matters that pertain to the Christian faith. I’m an extremely opinionated person. It would be easy (and enjoyable) for me to turn this platform into my own personal soap box. I don’t want to do that because this isn’t about me. As satisfying as it would be for me to blog about why I believe taxation is theft and why Rand Paul should be our next president, I’m not going to do that. (But seriously, taxation is theft and Stand with Rand!)

Since the 2016 presidential election, I’ve forgone the opportunity to say anything about Donald Trump. Believe me, I had plenty to say. While I don’t believe Christians need to remove themselves from the political discussion completely, I do understand these matters can be quite divisive. Christians already have a tendency to wound their own and I just didn’t want to add fuel to the fire. So, I kept my mouth shut about the presidential election and Donald Trump. But, there is one thing we want to say.

Before we go any further, I want to make something abundantly clear, and I speak for all the CiM writers when I say this: no matter where you stand politically, we’re glad you’re here. We won’t treat you with disrespect or hatred because of your political views. There’s been enough hurtful words and wounded relationships over politics, and we won’t participate in such childish behavior. Whether you love Trump or hate him, it honestly makes no difference to us. We’re still unified in Christ, and that’s what matters.

That being said…

What I’m about to say has been on my heart and my mind for quite some time. And I really believe this needs to be said and it needs to be heard by the church. Ready? TRUMP IS NOT JESUS! Oh man, it feels so good to get the off my chest!

Trump is the president, that’s it. Of course I’ll pray for him. He has, arguably, the most difficult job one could posses. Of course I want him to succeed as our president. I live in America! If he sinks this ship, we’re all going down! Of course I wouldn’t want that. What an asinine aspiration. But, I also understand he isn’t the only hope for America: Jesus is.

Supporting your president is all well and good, but your hope is found in Jesus, not your president. Christ alone can save. Christ alone can heal our land. Not Trump. Can God use Trump is His plan? Well…

Just look at Israel’s history. They had some really great rulers, they had some not-so-great rules. God’s will was done regardless. What I’ve gathered from Scripture is that God can work through any and all situations. It, ultimately, doesn’t matter which president we elect or which politicians we put in charge; God is still in control. And again, I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t voice your opinion on political issues. I am saying, however, God is Sovereign and it would serve us well to remember that.

The point I’m trying to make is simple: don’t love your president more than you love your God. Don’t put your faith in Trump, put your faith in Christ. Understand Christ alone can save. No politician can come close to accomplishing what Christ has done for us. No politician will ever compare to our Savior. When the lost are saved, it is because of the grace of God, not a political figure. It is a blessing to play a part in God’s plan, but at the end of the day, it is God’s plan, not ours.

Lets just stop treating President Trump like Jesus…when he’s not Jesus

God bless you all
